Animal Crossing's Best Solstice 2021 Nook Shopping Items

The solstice has returned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, bringing with it new items that players in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres can purchase via Nook Shopping. Here's what players should be looking out for this month.

Both the Summer and Winter Solstice have appeared in previous titles, so many fans of the series weren't to see them re-introduced into Animal Crossing: New Horizons last year. Multiple other holidays that have appeared frequently throughout the franchise were also added into the newest release. Animal Crossing's Bunny Day in particular garnered controversy among players for interrupting and overwhelming the usual gameplay with its notorious egg hunt mechanic.

The solstices, by comparison, are less overbearing. Although villagers tend to have unique dialogue to mark the holiday, the overall gameplay of New Horizons doesn't see much of a change. It does, however, introduce new items that can be purchased through either the Nook Shopping terminal or app. What items should players be keeping an eye out for this year?

This isn't the first time the solstice has rolled around. Animal Crossing: New Horizons holidays and events repeat on an annual basis, with each iteration adding new items for players who experienced the holiday once already. Nintendo tries to keep gameplay fresh in this manner, while still ensuring that new players aren't left out or barred from collecting every item in the game. This year's Summer Solstice introduces two new items as revealed first by Nintendo, though only one is available at a time and their availability depends on whether players are located in the Northern or Southern hemispheres. The Northern hemisphere will be receiving the Sunflower Rug, while Southern hemisphere players can get ahold of the Aurora Wall.

Although both furniture items have appeared before, New Horizons' rotating schedule kept them from being available to all players simultaneously last December. The Aurora Wall was available in the Northern hemisphere during 2020's Winter Solstice, and this month's Summer Solstice marks the first time it will be available to players in the Southern hemisphere. Similarly, the Sunflower Rug is only just now becoming available to Northern hemisphere players. 2020's New Horizons Solstice items, a flower crown and a sweater, have also been brought back for players who may have missed them the first time around. Players will have to wait until the next solstice later this year to see what other new items will be coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
