A new piece of Loki fan art predicts what Sophia Di Martino could look like as Lady Loki. Taking place with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney+’s Loki sees the return of Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief. Despite dying at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, this new series follows an alternate, or variant version of Loki circa 2012 who escaped with the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame’s time heist.
In Loki’s premiere episode, “Glorious Purpose,” its titular character is arrested by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a bureaucratic organization that oversees the scared timeline and dictates the proper flow of time. Loki’s subsequent court hearing is interrupted by Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson), an agent specializing in particularly dangerous variants, who saves Loki from being reset. After an impromptu therapy session and a failed escape attempt, the central mystery of Loki emerges at the end of its first episode: an Evil Loki Variant is hunting down TVA agents and stealing reset charges. It seems likely to assume fans will get to see a few different versions of the character throughout Loki.
Rumors have swirled that Di Martino (Yesterday) will be appearing as Lady Loki in the series and digital artist Mizuri recently posted art to Instagram depicting just that. This new piece of fan art sees Di Martino sporting black hair, lipstick, and wearing garb customary of the Asgardian trickster via The Avengers. Check it out below.
Similar to Mizuri’s concept art, a set photo shared back in March showed Di Martino wearing a Lady Loki-esque suit. However, instead of matching Loki’s black locks, she was seen with blonde hair. That said, it hasn’t been confirmed whether Di Martino is playing a female version of Loki. Loki first became a female in the comics when he stole a body meant for Lady Sif. The character has changed form on numerous occasions after cheating death. It’s worth mention that Loki's dossier in the TVA lists his sex as genderfluid. So, the MCU’s Lady Loki might not be an alternate version but an evolution of the existing character—something that could be said about other Lokis introduced in the series.
Loki is poised to explore the idea of multiple timelines and investigate suspects from each one. The villain of the series could be Di Martino’s Lady Loki, a different version of the trickster, or someone else pretending to be the God of Mischief (Kang the Conqueror?). Richard E. Grant is playing a role in Loki and many assume—given his resemblance to Hiddleston—his character will be King Loki, an older version of the character who destroyed Earth and conquered Asgard. It’s also possible that the Evil Loki Variant is simply a future version of the series’ anti-hero who, after being introduced to the TVA and its particular brand of determinism, decides to burn it to the ground. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how Di Martino’s character comes into play.
