The 90 Day Fiancé franchise features individuals from across the globe who relocate for love, and we're going to talk about the ones who are homesick. Sometimes, love isn’t enough to keep a reality star from missing their homeland. However, many of the American cast members’ friends and family are suspicious of their overseas partners’ motives. They think they just want Green Cards.
Whether they’re moving to the U.S. or away from it, cast members are leaving so much behind. It's not surprising that they often miss where they came from. The franchise has featured many couples across eight seasons of 90 Day Fiancé and countless spin-offs. No matter which countries franchise stars are leaving or moving to, relocating is always a huge change.
For some of the cast members, new homes are significantly worse than old ones, so it’s understandable that they feel disappointed and homesick. Even if they do like their new homes, it can be hard for them to forget about the lives they used to live. For a range of reasons, many 90 Day Fiancé alums will never escape the pull of their homelands.
It seems like Larissa regretted leaving home the minute she set foot on U.S. soil. She initially landed in Las Vegas, Nevada to be with her then-fiancé Colt Johnson. It quickly became clear that she was not cut out for life in the desert. Larissa constantly complained about the dry Las Vegas heat and dragged Colt for not having air conditioning in his car (which anyone who’s been to Las Vegas can tell you is fair criticism). After Larissa and Colt divorced, the Brazilian bombshell moved to Colorado, although she seemed to like it even less than Las Vegas. She’s spoken about the negative impact that the cold and the grey skies have had on her mental health. She says she "utterly regrets" leaving Brazil.
Sasha met his American wife Emily when she was in Russia. After falling in love, Emily unexpectedly became pregnant and gave birth to their baby while in Russia. After a few months, the new family moved to the U.S., where they’ve been living ever since. However, Sasha still has strong ties to the motherland. His parents are there, as well as his other children by different mothers. The couple had initially planned to have Sasha’s parents move to America, but based on immigration difficulties, that's no longer an option. This is unfortunate, but there is a plan B. Now, Sasha and Emily are making plans to move back to Russia and they seem very happy about that.
On 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, Karine and Paul were preparing for Karine to move from her home in Brazil to live with Paul in Kentucky. However, after she came to the U.S. it wasn’t long before things took a turn for the worse. This very controversial couple from the franchise had many dramatic fights, and there were also sexual assault allegations that were eventually dropped. Paul and Karine made the decision to move to Brazil. Paul hoped that being back in Karine's home country would bring her some comfort. Fans agreed that Paul and Karine seemed happier in Brazil, but their time there was short-lived. They have been seen back in the States.
It’s sometimes hard to tell when Syngin is in a bad mood due to his gregarious nature, but the South African native seems to be very homesick lately. He met his now-wife Tania Maduro when she visited South Africa. Since then, Syngin has moved to Connecticut and gotten married to Tania. Recently, Syngin posted several throwback photos on Instagram, including a tribute to his beloved dog. His pooch recently died while Syngin was still in the U.S. Though Syngin has a lot of appreciation for his new home, and regularly comments on the beauty of the American wilderness, it’s clear that part of his heart will always be in South Africa.
When Natalie first came to the United States, she experienced a massive culture shock, and it seems like she’s been regretting leaving home ever since. Back in Ukraine, Natalie lived in Kyiv, a major city and a diverse urban environment. When she came to America to be with her now-husband Mike, she moved to the small and rural town of Sequim, Washington. It is several hours from any major city. It’s no surprise that Natalie feels alone in the tiny town, and fans have blasted Mike for not exposing Natalie to Washington’s Ukrainian community. With her marriage quickly crumbling, the feelings of isolation are compounding. Natalie is missing home more than ever.
Fans were skeptical about Turkish native Mursel’s relationship with now-wife Anna, based on their many differences, including not speaking each other's languages. After he moved to the U.S., Anna discovered that Mursel hadn’t told his parents about her three children from a different marriage because he thought they wouldn’t approve. Anna was understandably furious and booted Mursel back to Turkey. Eventually, they reconciled, and he returned to the U.S. The couple seems to be happy now, but Mursel still misses Turkey. Anna does her best to keep his homesickness in check by whipping up delectable Turkish cuisine for him. She regularly shares pics of her culinary creations with followers on Instagram.
On 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Ariela left her home in New Jersey to be with her partner Biniyam Shibre in Ethiopia, and at first, she was very apprehensive about the move. She was extremely pregnant and nervous when she first came to Ethiopia, but the birth went smoothly. Although she’s experienced some culture shock moments, Ariela has been open about the respect she has for her new home. However, in the preview for the next season of The Other Way, it appears that Ariela returns to the U.S. with her and Biniyam’s son Ari. She is seen telling Biniyam, “I will never go back to Ethiopia after what you have done to me and Avi.” Perhaps Ariela has been more unhappy in Ethiopia than she has let on.
Many 90 Day Fiancé cast members miss their homelands after settling permanently with their partners in new countries. It’s hard to give up life in one place and start over somewhere completely different. Despite their feelings of homesickness, many of the cast members have love in their lives which helps them to cope. Though the pull of home is hard to ignore, many of the show’s alum found partners who were worth the downside of relocation.
