Shang-Chi Already Teased Him Beating The Mandarin | Screen Rant

The latest trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings seemingly depicts the aftermath of Shang-Chi’s victory over the Mandarin (Tony Leung). The classic Iron Man villain is confirmed to be the main antagonist for the Master of Kung Fu’s first MCU adventure. Instead of being the hated foe of Tony Stark, the Mandarin has been reimagined as Shang-Chi’s father, allowing him to take the place of the controversial Fu Manchu from the hero’s original comics.

Trailers and marketing for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings have painted a picture of what Simu Liu’s character will be up against in the second Phase 4 movie. Similar to his comic book counterpart, Shang-Chi spent his earliest years in seclusion, where he was trained to be a deadly warrior under the orders of the Mandarin. Sometime after being allowed a taste of the outside world, Shang-Chi will turn against his father and compete in an underground martial arts tournament against MCU villains like the Abomination. Apparently, the conflict that unfolds in Shang-Chi is directly related to the Ten Rings, which in the comics were the weapons wielded by the Mandarin.

It could be that by the end of the movie, Shang-Chi will somehow beat the Mandarin and get his hands on these highly sought-after artifacts. The new trailer that was released for Shang-Chi teases this outcome. The final shot in the trailer shows the Ten Rings swirling in the air around Shang-Chi, who also used them to fly. Judging by his calm posture, it looks like the Ten Rings are under his control, and not being deployed against him by the Mandarin. This serves as an indication that Shang-Chi has found them at this point, and may have already unlocked their power.

Also, the backdrop matches what’s behind Mandarin in a previous scene, which comes off as the movie’s final showdown. It would seem that what the trailer is actually previewing is Shang-Chi winning the fight, or the moment right before he takes him down. After all, it’s unlikely that Mandarin would stand much of a chance for any length of time once Shang-Chi obtains the Ten Rings and control over the power they possess.

The Ten Rings are traditionally portrayed as the Mandarin’s greatest weapons, and so there’s an expectation that the same will be true on the big screen. In Iron Man comics, each of the rings grants Mandarin a different ability, some of which being elemental blasts, telepathic attacks, and more. The MCU adaptation of them in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings may be different in some ways, but could be close or even equal to their power level. If that’s the case, it will take quite a lot for Shang-Chi to take them from the Mandarin. It may be that after defeating the villain, he’ll seal them away so that no one else can use their abilities for nefarious purposes.
