No Time To Die's Trailer Hints At Craig's James Bond's Death

The final trailer for new film No Time To Die hints at the death of Daniel Craig's James Bond. The clip includes a compilation of Craig's previous performances in the franchise as well as never-before-seen footage from the new movie, all of which points towards a dramatic conclusion for this chapter in the long-running spy series. Although actors playing Bond have come and gone, the finality hinted at in the No Time To Die trailer suggests that audiences could be about to experience something significantly more definitive than what's gone before.

Slightly unusually, the new trailer chronicles several of Craig's most iconic moments from previous Bond movies, including Casino RoyaleSkyfall and Quantum of Solace. After the opening montage, the video showcases several unseen moments from the upcoming movie, including interactions with Rami Malek's villain and new 007 Lashana Lynch. The action is accompanied by large written titles that emphasize that No Time To Die represents the "conclusion" to the current Craig-led Bond saga.

The new trailer includes several welcome tidbits for excited audiences. However, the most dramatic revelation concerns its hints and innuendos about the potential fate of the film's lead character. In fact, arguably more than any other James Bond trailer, this release not only suggests that Bond is in jeopardy, but also that the danger that he faces is much more visceral than what we've come to expect from the larger-than-life espionage franchise. Coupled with the knowledge that MI6 has a ready-made 007 replacement in Lashana Lynch, and the clues that this could be a fatal climax for Bond become even more pronounced.

Perhaps the biggest giveaway that the new film will contain some dramatic moments for Bond is the emphasis on this installment being a final chapter of sorts. Throughout the trailer, the character references needing to "finish" something, while the bold title cards make it explicitly clear that No Time To Die represents more of a definitive conclusion than simply letting Craig wander off into the sunset. By contrast, final outings for previous incumbents, such as Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Daymade no suggestion that they would be the end for the character as a whole, suggesting that something really is different this time around.

To make matters even more exciting, the action sequences as well as the overall tone of the trailer seems genuinely fatalistic. Even more so than usual, Bond seems to be in genuine peril, such as a moment when he is seen trapped under the ice of a frozen lake as Malek shoots at him. Bond surviving seemingly impossible situations is a hallmark of the series. However, it does feel in this case that there is an inevitability about these sequences that all point towards the character's death. Of course, any suggestion that this really is the end of the road for Bond at this stage is pure speculation. Nevertheless, it does seem as though No Time To Die really will tread new ground as it sets out to bring the Daniel Craig James Bond era to a close.
