Will Hitman Devs' Project 007 Be First-Person | Screen Rant

IO Interactive, developer of the popular Hitman series, is aiming its sights at another famous secret agent for its next game. Project 007 (actual title pending) will see IOI take the reins for the video game return of the legendary MI6 agent, James Bond. Although the martini-drinking 007 is best known for the long-running film franchise, the British secret agent has appeared in a myriad of video games over the years. Ever since GoldenEye 007 was released in 1997, games featuring Bond have either been third-person or first-person shooters, but which perspective will Project 007 adopt?

Even though Project 007 was announced back in November, IO Interactive has remained hushed on details regarding the game. Virtually no other information has come to light, including gameplay elements like the player's perspective. A job listing for Project 007 suggested it would be third-person, but that is hardly confirmation in and of itself. Hitman 3 released in January 2021, marking the end of the World of Assassination trilogy, but the game received post-launch support. Because of this, it's safe to assume Project 007 is still in early production, and IOI might not have decided if the game will be first-person or not.

Said job listing has also been taken down, meaning the position has presumably been filled. IOI does have a track record of third-person games, though, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see the studio stick with what it knows. Simply by the nature of the characters, Hitman and Project 007 may end up being quite different, so it is possible the studio transitions to first-person instead.

Project 007's perspective remains a mystery, just like much of the rest of the upcoming game. There hasn't been any new information since IOI shared a few Project 007 details in January. The game will be a wholly unique James Bond origin story, with its own version of the iconic secret agent. This means no actor who has portrayed 007 past or present will be the face of Bond for Project 007. This is significant since it doesn't seem like a popular route historically with the James Bond games. Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, and even Sean Connery have lent their likenesses to digital versions of 007 over the years.

Crafting a new Bond may give IOI an extra level of creative freedom, but it doesn't really say much about the game itself. Players can probably expect Hitman's stealth sequences, shooting mechanics, and probably some Bond-esque driving missions. There have been James Bond games in third-person as well as first-person, and their reception seems to hinge more on the narrative than any singular mechanic. Hitman is a third-person series because that works well when playing as Agent 47, but players will have to wait until IO Interactive divulges more info on Project 007 to get a definitive answer on its camera perspective.
